Well I've held off blabbing long enough and now it's time to share the news...I'm a grandpa! Our oldest son and his wife brought our grandson into the world on Monday May 8, 2006 at 10:43 am. via 'C' section.
All are doing well but the new dad is a bit nervous and overly protective right now but I think his wife will get over it!
I don't think I ever saw a grin as big on him as when he came out of the delivery room to tell us that their son was here.
Can't wait until I can get him hooked on astronomy!

Congratulations Dave!
So when do we get to see pictures of the newest astronomer? Maybe even with a planisphere in his hand.

Thanks guys!
Although this is not my first grand child he is the first to carry on my last name so that sort of makes him special.
I did stick a quick photo on my website,
http://www.freewebs.com/birmingham_astro/photos.htm
, but unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to bring any astronomical things along this trip. I was messing around during one visit to the hospital and stuck my sunglasses clips on his nose and he didn't seem to mind grandpa fooling around with him a bit. My son got a photo of that scene and I need to get my hands on a copy of that one. My daughter-in-law does have a passing interest in astronomy but unfortunately all you guys who do those beautiful color photos have left her with the notion that we should be able to see the same thing through the eyepiece.

Thanks guys!
There will certainly be a strong effort to get this newest addition hooked on astronomy...wait til he asks dad for a new Meade telescope!
I really enjoyed the time visiting but probably got the most grins from watching my son become a new dad. Talk about Daddy Nerves, the first two nights with the baby home I'm told he hardly slept and would get up at the slightest sound from his son. Could I have been the same?!
