Finally got to an open field last week on Thursday and Friday

Thursday didn't go so well, crash landed two times.  The second time the crash was pretty hard, nose went in rather hard and that crash disabled the electronics inside the airplane.  There were several people at the field watching and I think that made me a little nervous cheesy

I was able to repair the plane and try again on Friday with a little better luck.  Had the field all to ourselves and I made 3 successive flights but had difficulty landing, no hard crashes though grin

Plane was still flyable this time

Bought a new airplane cheesy

A Air Hog Aero Ace
I think this is where I should have started in the first place.  $29.95 at Walmart.  Almost indestructible, made out of foam, can fly in small spaces.  The only negative I've found so far, you can not fly in any wind, it needs to be perfectally calm  The plane is small and very light weight and can really take a beating.  Just keep it out of the trees and bushes and off the roof tops grin

I have had a blast with it so far cheesy

Nice plane Ron!

If you want to see a crash, go there: http://www.lesbeninger.com/sunday.html ... I had my wife take a few photos of the first flight ... launched into the wind ... wind turned, I panicked and crash! Wings are OK but the receiver is dead and the fuselage has problems ... I have made another glider, a very small one, found on the web  (see http://lecrobe.free.fr/main.htm# ).

It's finished, crashed, repaired and will fly soon I hope .. to be followed ... and still cloudy here!

Cheers

JY

Thanks for the report and pics.  Nice looking glider.  I'll probably stick with my little Firebird Phantom until I learn how to fly, and that may be awhile at my speed of progress cheesy

I have been having a blast with the little Air Hogs Areo Ace Venom since I can fly it in my yard as long as there is no wind.  So far I have landed it in trees, roof tops, neighbors yard, and the canal.  At least I know it floats grin

I hope to get some more practice with the Phantom this weekend at our monthly star party.  Maybe I can get the wife to take a few pics of my practices

Well grin

embarassed More crashes more repairs, more crashes more repairs, still trying to learn how to handle this flying thing cheesy

Very bad experience this past weekend, flew completely out of the flying area, crashed into the tops of some huge oak trees angry

Luckily I found the parts to my plane in several smaller trees, was able to repair it and put it back together, but for some reason or other I could not get the plane airborne again huh

But I did manage to fly my Air Hogs Aero Ace and had plenty of fun with it while the wind was calm.

This stuff is really addicting  grin

I still haven't learned to fly the Phantom yet cheesy

I'm getting a little better with the little foam planes.  At least I get to fly them in my yard if there is no wind, and the real small biplane I can fly in the house when it's too windy to fly outside.

The little planes are very forgiving since they can stand a lot of crashes and keep on going.

Hope I get a chance to fly this Memorial Day weekend but the weather doesn't look to promising cry  We need the rain though.

My hanger has changed a bit from my first starting this new hobby grin

I have sorta down sized in plane size.   I still have my Phantom but I am now spending more time and money on micro size.  All models of planes are no wind, or at least less than 5mph wind, fliers  They fly in very small areas and I don't have to drive to a large open flying field any more.  The micro helicopter is strictly an indoor flier.

My flying skills have improved greatly since going to the micros.   They fly slow and are fairly controllable, at least for me cheesy
