My first Jupiter of the 2008 season

Jupiter is still rather low and seeing wasn't all that great, fading in and out very rapidly.  There wasn't a lot I could see in my 8" scope and 18mm wa ep, however I did notice that the Equatorial Zone was much brighter than last year at this time.  I could just barely make out the North Polar Region, but did notice some darker spots in the N & S Equatorial Belts, a dark spot in the South Polar Region.

5/17/08 0523 EDT, 66 images, Nikon CP995 +1.6 barlow & 18mm wa ep

Battery went dead in my old camera so I managed to only get 66 images to stack.

I definitely need a different camera cheesy

Ron, what type of camera is the Nikon CP995?
How many you had plan to take before the battery died? and what is the process you follow to define the amount of pictures to be stacked?

The photo embed is just great!, Congratulations!

Pille,

The Nikon CP995 is pretty old by todays standards, circa 2001 http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Nikon/nikon_cp995.asp.  It used to take pretty good planetary pictures for a non movie or web cam.

I had planned on taking about 300 to 400 frames and stacking the best frames in Registax.  My method is pretty crude compared to a web or similar camera, but then I don't use a computer in my capture method grin

I'm thinking about getting some kind of video or camcorder that uses compact flash cards to store the picture frames.  That way I can still take pictures of Planets without the use of a computer, and capture a lot more frames in a shorter amount of time.  Probably wishful thinking cheesy

Thanks for the compliment,

Ron

Ron, sound very interesting.
I you may, starting from the basics, will the 300 - 400 frames were you planning to set the camera to start taking frame by frame or you were going to go with a video and then take the frames?
If you were going to shoot for the video how will you brake the video in to single frames?

Thanks for the time to respond and help me to understand better.
