Help with processing Jupiter (LPI Image)

Im having a heck of a time figuring out how to process/retain a color imagein the Meade image processing program. While it seems i can load/process a b/w image, doing it in color is seemingly very difficult?!
Can anyone point me to a place/program, something...that will assist me in optimizing the color in my LPI images?
Ron processed thissame Jupiter image in the other forum, and did a GREAT job with it! I tried to process, and bring the color out in the image, with no luck!
Heres the image. (raw from the LPI) Thanks in advance! Ken

Ken,
Sorry I can't help with the LPI software.
I don't have it and probably couldn't understand it if I did.
All I did to your image was take it into RegiStax, aligned the color and did a little wavelet adjustment. Then I took it to my PSE for a little final tweaking with the color, levels, and unsharp mask.
Actually it was very simple to do , and it has to be if I can do it, since the data and detail was already there.

Ron,
What do you mean by "aligned the color"?

Ron, i have "Registax 2" so i assume its possible for me to achieve a similiar result? I guess, even after reading the tutorial, that i just need a little guidance as to how to manipulate/understand some of the controls and settings in that program.
Im clueless what a "wavelet" is, and ive muddled around in registax a few times, just cant get it together!

Ken, the colors are shifted in the red direction, probably could be due to planet being lower I'm guessing
Webcameras also are prone to shifting colors toward red.
Are you using an IR filter when imaging Jupiter btw?

Ken, this is what I get processing your image in PixInsight and then adjusting the colors in RegiStax 3 's "RGB shift" function.
I moved this image below, and added the original.

Nope, not using an IR filter. Should i be? Only filters i have are polarizing, neutral density (for the moon) blue and red.

Yes you should be for Jupiter, and also when imaging planets low on the horizon like Mercury and Venus.
For Saturn it's not necessary this season since it's around 70 + degrees in altitude.

I'm removing this, looks like you didn't get much use out of it anyway..........
(not even a "thanks" or "it looks horrible" etc. , one can only try eh)

Dave[/quote
Dave,
Back a couple of years ago when we were imaging Mars, most of my Mars images had a reddish cast on one side and a bluish cast on the opposite side. Rick took one of the images and shifted, aligned, the colors in PS. Since the only program I have that can do that is RegiStax, I do my realignments with it.
Most Planet images I see have either a reddish or bluish cast on one side.
In Ken's original image of Jupiter I could see the reddish cast at the top, so I adjusted it down either -1 or a -2, I can't remember
I just played arround with it until it looked right?

Ken,
I have both RegiStax 2 & 3 but I haven't gotten to far with #3 so I used #2. I have trouble understanding directions from the tutorials also
You should be able to duplicate the same results that I got, the only difference would be in the final tweaking which most of the time is a personal prefference.
Just open up your image in RegiStax #2.
Cick the, set RGB shift.
In the adjustment, move the red down until it dissapears from the top of your image. You might have to adjust the blue up 1?
Then on the right of the screen you will see "Wavelet Scheme" with 6 sliders. I took the #6 and slid it to the right a little at a time until the image looked good. I moved it to about 40. Just move it until you are satisfied with the detail?
Save the image and then do your final editing in what ever program you have. I use the modified version of Photoshop Elements #2.
If you need anymore help PM me with your Phone # and I will call you some evening after 9:00 est or the weekend, and maybe I can walk you through the steps I did.
Ron
PS
Actually that's one of the finest images of Jupiter I have seen taken with the LPI.
Robert did a very good job in bringing out the detail

Ron, thanks! Boy now i see a difference in what i can actually pull from the image!
Im posting my attempt at following your instructions...i left the image a bit brighter, and with a little less detail....i kinda like the images to resemble what i see thru the scope...you know, bright etc!
Ill probably take you up on getting a hold of you by phone sometime anyway, it will be nice to be able to communicate/ask/answer questions etc that way. Thanks alot!
Heres my interpretation.

Saburo, Sorry if it looked like i wasnt appreciative....I both appreciated and needed yours and Rons assistance.
It was confusing when i saw peoples words cut/pasted into someone elses reply....i didnt look closely enough to know who said what!
I appreciate everyones efforts on this board, as im really just learning and have alot of questions.
Your images looked great! So did Rons....I was obviously inspired to try to achieve similiar results.
So a belated thank you, and your redo's looked great....enough to keep me working in Registax for a few hours to try to duplicate!

Saburo, the other thing that you said that caught my attn, was about using the IR filter...and red shifting etc.
I did notice reddish color at one side of the image and blue on the opposite side...which i had not noticed when photographing Saturn. I wondered if it was purely atmospheric???...or maybe my Barlow lens is causing a shift??
Im probably overthinking it, but i thought id ask.
Thanks, Ken
