Ken, my bad for sounding cranky, I'm a little bit under the weather.

I have noticed a difference in color balance for the better since I started using an IR filter on the planets.
It is highly recommended by all the "experts" on the many imaging boards out there.

The Baader IR/UV cut filter is a good one to get.

I've been told by guys who are heavy in the technical aspect of this hobby, that use of an IR filter produces a better, crisper focus (relating to different wavelengths) when using a 3x barlow or 2x barlow etc.

Ron has great advice about the red & blue shift as well, RegiStax 2 and the new & improved RegiStax 3 has an RGB shift function which can help correct it.
In most cases you can just hit "Estimate" and it corrects it for you.

I'll have to look into the IR filter.

I found the "rgb alignment" thing in Registax2.  I now know what its for!  I had noticed the red fringe/blue fringe thing, and sure enough, it adjusted it for me...very cool!

Im hoping to get some LPI owners out there to post here...etc.

Id like to see how my images are coming next to some others out there.  Theres alot of guys using other, presumably much better cameras etc.  So this is proving to be interesting.....

Ken,

I'm glad I was able to help Cheesy

I'm by no stretch of the imagination an expert in these things, I am only passing on what I have learned from the other fine people on these Forums at ArkSky.org Cheesy

Robert,

I hope you get to feeling better!  This time of year over here is Flu season and I have been rather fortunate so far cheesy but the season isn't over yet.

I'm an LPI user as well. Here's a link to what I've posted so far. Some here and some on the autostar yahoo group.

Cool!  I really like the little LPI.  Its not a "Toucam" but it is fun to use.  Im going to try to stretch its capabilities ...see what else i can pick up/photograph with it.

I checked out your photos page, you have some nice pics in there.  I will be trying to concentrate on Jupiter over the next two months or so....then hopefully ill get back to visual observations....you can really get caught up in the astrophotography thing if you arent careful!

I have a few Saturn pics that id say are an 8 out of 10, with regard to whats possible with the LPI.  I want to get a few "8 out of 10" shots of Jupiter, but it wont be nearly as high in the sky as Saturn was....so we will see.

Im also going to have my daughter try to get some images thru her ETX 70.

We will see!
