Greetings All;

As you probably can see, I have changed our software from PhpBB to SMF, or Simple Machines Forum.  My reason was due to the constant updating that the old software required to plug up vulnerability holes, nearly every month.  Our Webhost no longer supports PhpBB, and required us to make the updates or would take the entire website offline until we did.  We are not the only one's that were effected by this, and many, many others have switched to SMF.

It appears nice at first glance!  I hope the learning curve does not present any problems to our members.

Thanks,

Brian Sherrod

If anyone has any permission problems posting, editing, etc., you can email me at brian@arksky.org.  Best I can tell, everything should be okay, however this software is new to me too.

Hi Brian,

First, let me thank you again for all your hard work maintaining and constantly improving this web site.
My first reaction to the new format is that it seems awfully bright. I kind of liked the darker nature of the previous boards. This seems a little antiseptic. I'm sure I'll get used to it though.

Hi Dave,

How about this Theme?

BTW, anyone can change their defualt theme in your profile settings.  There are not that many to choose from at this time however...

Hey Brian,

This is MUCH better.
I looked in the profile section before I posted and didn't see anything that looked like it would do this. I must have missed it.

Thanks,
Dave

I agree, it's really good. Good call on the darker theme.
I really like the calendar, and the marquee calling for clear skies for me.

I like it also,

I signed up a while ago, and this is my 1st post. I see a lot of great stuff here (Pics. and discussion). Someday I can only hope to be as knowledgable as the rest of you here .
Again a nice change in the site.

Thanks for the comments guys!  I am relieved to know that at least of you have not found it to be a step back since I really had no choice.  The old software WAS, at one time, the one to get, but as with a lot of other things, it sort of got haywire when the security aspects of it went bad.  I was almost to the point of giving up on forum stuff, and the work I was having to do to keep the old software up to date with constant version changes.  When the last one came out a few weeks back and messed up the board for a day or so, I decided that was the end of phpBB...

Thanks Again, and if anyone has any troubles with the new SMF, please let me know.

Hey Brian,

I just found the meteor calendar. That's great! I think. I'll probably miss a lot more sleep now that I have that schedule.

Thanks for another really cool service.

Thanks Dave!

Actually Clay is the one who wrote those articles, so I give credit to him on the work he does each month composing the Event's Calendar on the ASO main page.  I decided to try out the forum calendar, and copied and pasted these meteor showers to see how it would work.  It is pretty cool!!  I think from now on, we can put these more interesting events for the month in this new forum calendar.  It does really make it easy to keep up with the things coming up.

The calendar is one the my favorite features of this new software.

Thanks,
Brian
