Grizz,

The site's been up as far as I can tell. Things have been sort of quiet, but not silent. I still have that nagging problem of a pretty slow load of the first page followed by reasonable speeds after that, but it has been up.

I have also had problems getting onto the site over the past few days.  It's been hit or miss.

From what I understand, there was another DOS (denial of service) attack on the server we reside, however it was not widespread for some reason.  Some people (myself included) only experienced a short period of down time, but others say up to 24 hours.  Since I was not aware of this, I did not pursue the issue, not that I could have done anything about it however.

Some idiot has been attacking the "aaryn" server for over a week now, and to my knowledge they have not been able to track him down.  Yesterday, the web host had some firewall settings in place that apparently prevented certain areas of the net to access the server.  I suspect to isolate the culprit.  We are one of about 1500 websites on "aaryn" and others were not happy campers yesterday either.

Clay reported that he could not access the site from Tampa yesterday at the same time that I _could_, and I even saw users logged into the forums, so I knew it was an isolated deal.

Lets keep our fingers crossed that this will go away and never come back.  Change is not always a good thing, and I made the decision to move the site to another host at a bad time, however I am only human and prone to mistakes.  I will do my best to keep on top of the situation if it happens again.  Since I've paid for a full year, I'm sort of stuck unless I pay another host and start all over again.

In the meantime, if you have troubles getting into the site in the future please send me an email at arksky@alltel.net just in case I am not aware of it.

Brian,

I don't see any reason to leave this host. If you go to another, there's no telling what sort of attack they'll be subjected to. The grass is definitely not greener on either side of the ISP fence.

<vent on>
Trust me when I say that all ISP's experience this from time to time. I wish there was a way to track down and stop all the nonsense, but that would be asking too much of a depraived subset of humanity.
<vent off>

There, I feel much better now.  Cheesy
Keep up the good work, Brian.

Brian,

I don't think any of us are holding you in any way responsible. You already do tremendous amounts to keep things here running smoothly. We understand there are some things that are out of the ability to control.

This sounds like just another case of one ruining something for the rest of us, too bad we can't get a vigilante party together and have this person as the "guest of horror"  wink

Brian,

You do a great job of kepping this site up and running. There is nothing you can do if someone attacks the host. We can deal with slight interuptions from time to time.

Thanks
