Here is a highly detailed image of the
SOLIS LACUS
(the "Eye of Mars") region of Mars, showing a wealth of topographic detail and subtle contrasts among the maria.

Hi Ron....
Indeed it is; the way that I process (and obtain) images is to produce results that provide some degree of dimensionality so that shadow features CAN give you a sense of topography. This is obvious on the Mars shot.....if you imagine the sun coming from over your right shoulder at a pretty strong angle, you can really sense the high and low points of the Martian surface in this image.
